When you are looking at the Spyder electronic guns, the only difference is the electronic trigger frame. Instead of pulling the trigger to manually release the sear and fire the gun (which in a Spyder can equal a long trigger pull) the trigger touches a microswitch (think mouse click) to send a signal to a solenoid to trigger the sear and fire the gun. The electro Spyders are good beginner guns. The biggest drawbacks are the price factor. To get the most potential out of the gun you would need an agitating or electronic hopper (loader) and you'll shoot more paintballs, which means more money spent. Sure, batteries can be a hassle in the electronic guns, but if you keep the gun dry and use a fresh battery every time you play you should be fine (invest in a rechargable 9v). The only real advantage to using the mechanical Spyder is the cost. You would be looking to upgrade it much quicker than the electronic gun, though, as the mechanical gun won't stand much of a chance against people plating with electronic guns. These days, almost 90% of paintball players that have been in the sport for any length of time use an electronic gun. I myself have owned a couple of the Spyder E-markers and have always liked them. Hope this helps.

OK, the main difference is speed. Electro guns are generally faster shooting guns and require a battery to run. A pneumatic gun or mechanical gun ( which are the same thing) is going to be generally slower but more constant.

Pros of Electros:

Fast, look cool, used more in competitions i.e. Nppl

Cons: requires new batteries, not as reliable, pain in the *** to fix internals

Pros of Pneumatics

reliable, able to drop and still work, used in scenario and woodsball games

Cons:

not as fast ( but can be made fast for some $$$) normally not as cool looking (again can be made cool looking)

i would personally recommend you should try out both the try out a tippmann 98 or a-5 if you like the idea of a pneumatic gun

Electric p-ball guns normally shoot faster but you have to wonder what happens if the battery runs out when your in he middle of a game. But you can also save allot of co2 or compressed air. With mechanical it is hassle free but you also using up your c02 or compressed air. But you have two buy battery's so i guess its what ever you like. I actually am getting e-grip for my Tippmann x7 when it comes out for it.
