Hi,
I'm a total amateur so how much should i expect to pay to pitch my tent in a campsite in the U.K per night?
Thank-you!

Depends on a few factors:

Where (in the country)

When (peak times are more expensive)

What site (Farmers' fields can be dead cheap, Private or other maintained sites can be pricey - depends on what facilities they have as well - hot water, showers, a wash-up area, drying room, shop, etc etc.)

Some places are about £4 or so, others approach £20! Some charge per tent, some per person. Some add a quid or so for car parking per day.

Sites without a website are often cheaper - get their number from listings websites or by calling a local tourist info office.

Decide how much you want to rough it, how much cash you are willing to part with for what you get and take it from there.

Pack a relaxed attitude and a sense of humour and you're off to a wining start.

Oh - I'm a big fan of checking the weather forecast regularly before I go camping. recommend www.metcheck.co.uk (or is it .com ?)

Happy camping

As others have said you can purchase inexpensive and ineffective tents for under $40. I camped over the years using everything from plastic sheeting, nylon, silnylon, and canvas. This year I upgraded to a cuben fiber (a totally waterproof material) tarp and a tent made by zpacks. The tent is 9 feet long by 64 inches at the widest, 40+ inches at the feet, weighs 18 ounces, cost $475. The tarp is 8 1/2 ft. by 11 ft and weighs 7 ounces, cost $275. These are on the cutting edge of ultra-light equipment for long distance thru hiking. The answer is: Based on how you intend to use a tent purchase what you need.

Depends where. More touristy places will charge more (eg. Glen Nevis site, costs about 10 pounds per night), and smaller sites will charge closer to 5 pounds (eg Gairloch site).

In the U.S. it's about $15, but I don't know anything about the U.K. Sorry, hope I helped some!
