Put on a hat. If your extremities are cold, i.e. fingers, toes etc, you're body is losing enough heat that it's more concerned about keeping your core warm than the less important features. Since you lose more heat off the top of your head than anywhere else because heat rises, keep more of it in with a good thick hat.

I grew up in SE Montana hunting in the cold and a cheap and effective way was to put a plastic bag, like a plastic grocery bag from Walmart. Preferably one with no holes. If you need to double-up the bags. The reasoning behind it is that it keeps a layer between your feet and the inside of your shoe which can get wet and if you are on a long hike or in the backcountry and don't have the means or the time the to dry your boots your feet will stay warm with new socks. I thought it was the stupidest thing i had ever heard but after numerous hiking and backcountry trips it has never failed.

2-3 layers of socks. the first layer should be a thin liner (no cotton) made of some water wicking synthetic (like polypropolene), the 2nd layer and 3rd layer should be medium thickness and heavy thickness wool socks. i hunt in -10 degree weather occasionally. also, it helps to keep your head warm if you want warm feet.

also wear boots with thinsulate. have at least 600 grams. 1000+ is preferable.

When I was in Iraq (yeah, it gets cold out in the desert) and had missions, guard, etc. I got "Hothands-2" hand warmers in a care package. I'd slip them down in my socks. They actually worked too well. If you don't have all that other fancy gear just tough it out and keep your circulation moving. Core temp is more important than comfort.
