Note that there is no distinction between an "M4" lower and an M16 lower. I believe that the only distinction between an M4/M16 and an AR15 lower is the support of the selective fire setting.

A true HK416 upper has an SBR sized barrel, which would make any firearm it is attached to regulated under the NFA. The civilian version of the HK416 upper with the 16" barrel is the MR556a1. Be aware that while it might be compatible with the AR15 lower receiver, there are some restrictions on the lower receiver assembly.

Note that while the HK416/MR556 upper is a cool "mall ninja" inspired purchase, it is going to be hard to find just the upper. It is easier to find the a complete MR556 for a mere $2700+.

There are several high quality made piston uppers made right here in the USA. Honestly, unless you are made of money or are going to start your own special forces merc company, there is absolutely no reason to pay extra for the HK name or even a piston AR. You an save $1000 and get a high performing AR and used the money saved for optics or other tacticool stuff (or buy 3000 rounds of ammo).

I contacted Spikes Tactical for my 416 Lower Receiver. It would fit my other AR lowers but does require a select fire hammer. Not a select fire trigger group. just the notched hammer.

Most aftermarket triggers made for mil spec receivers have this type of hammer.

The 416 upper is heavier than a DI upper of the same build due to the piston system.

Unless you are planning to run your SBR suppressed, I wouldn t invest in the 416. It is rock solid and will always run. but so will a quality DI upper and you will me managing less weight in the process. Plus, the recoil pulse is a bit different. Almost a double bump due to the rearward movement of the piston.

just my .02 and when it comes to opinions on what firearms to own. The only opinion that matters, is the owner.

It looks like the HK lower is an ar15/m4 clone and should work.
