Is a 40'x60' a good size for a horseback riding arena?

I recently purchased a horse and I want to build a riding arena just to work him some. I don't jump or do anything sport like that..so I was wondering if it would be a good idea to build a 40'x60' riding arena. Because I don't always want to go out on a trail ride.
Thanks for all the help!!

That is pretty small for riding. Double that size would be better for both of you. In that small of a setup all you can do is turn.

I agree that 40'X60' is small. Alot of it depends on what you plan to do in the arena and if anyone else will be working horses in there at the same time. In my area, many of the arenas run from about 125'X275' to about 150'X325', but there are often more than one horse & rider in there at a time.
